Hamilton City is a vibrant, rapidly-growing city situated right in the heart of the Waikato region. The population of Hamilton has now reached over 140,000 people and the city draws hundreds of thousands of visitors to several major events hosted every year.
January kicks off with the Parachute Music Festival drawing over 20,000 young adults for a four-day Christian music extravaganza. In February, the stunning Hamilton Gardens hold the Summer Festival, featuring quality local and international entertainers and musicians. April brings a multitude of hot air balloons flying over the city for the autumn Balloon Festival, as well as the Hamilton 400, the New Zealand round of the international V8 Supercars series. In June, New Zealand's huge Agricultural Fieldays are held near Hamilton at Mystery Creek event centre, followed by the Waikato stage of August's Rally of New Zealand.
During your stay in Hamilton, visit the Tamahere Country Market (held the third Saturday of every month) to see the best of local arts, crafts and produce. If it's a taste of the Kiwi sporting culture you're after, you can buy tickets throughout the winter to see Waikato's Chiefs play in an action-packed rugby game at Waikato Stadium.
Hamilton is also home to the Mormon Temple, which every year in December has a spectacular display of Christmas lights. You'll also find that year round, the Hamilton Zoo is open for visiting - Hamilton has so much to offer!
